Where Scout's data comes from

The sources

• Schools' own athletics websites — public staff directories and public team roster pages. That's where coach names/titles, published contact details, and roster composition come from.
• The NCAA's public member directory — the canonical list of member schools, divisions, and official athletics websites.
• Public reference lists (e.g. Wikipedia program lists) — only to know which schools sponsor which sports.
• The Scout community — athletes and families can suggest a coach contact or a camp; suggestions are marked and verified before they're shown as trusted.

What the roster numbers mean

Scout reads each program's current public roster and counts, by position group, how many players are listed as seniors or graduate students ("graduating out") versus everyone else ("returning"). That's it — no private data, no predictions dressed up as facts. Graduating out ≠ an open scholarship; walk-ons, redshirts, and transfers are unknowable from a roster page, and we say so in the product.

Freshness

Rosters are re-read on the recruiting calendar's natural beats (portal windows, signing day, pre-camp) and each read is date-stamped in the app ("roster read Jul 11, 2026"). Automated checks alert us if any sport's data goes stale.

What we deliberately don't do

• No scraping of anything behind a login, a paywall, or a "no-bots" wall — if a school's site says no, the school shows up in Scout as "contacts pending" instead.
• No bulk-messaging tools pointed at the contacts we list — Scout is 1-to-1 by design.
• No selling or licensing of the directory.

Corrections & removal (schools and coaches)

If you're a coach or athletics staff member and something's wrong — or you'd rather not be listed — email privacy@gentoologic.com and we'll correct or remove it promptly. Coaches can also have their phone number suppressed from listings with one request (TCPA opt-out).
